Focused Pakistani Army pounds Taliban

Posted on

Apparently emboldened, or perhaps embarrassed by the Obama administration’s statements concerning the Pak government’s non-action, the Pakistani Army and Airforce are aggressively attacking fortified Taliban positions. Government officials are counting 700 dead militants.

Interior Minister Rehman Malik is quoted as saying that the attacks will continue until the last Talib. Perhaps, someone, somewhere has learned how to deal with Islamic extremists.

It’s important that the Pakistani government take good care of the refugees, providing security, lest the Taliban fill the vacuum of basic human needs.

Well, it is a baby step but a step none the less.

Some have claimed that Pakistan is playing a dangerous game: using the Taliban insurgency to milk billions more out of the US.

Of course, it would be catastrophic if Pakistan fell to the Taliban. While the Taliban is not Al Qaeda, it seems likely that the Pakistani nukes would be up for sale fairly quickly.

The Taliban strikes me as a force of evil and disorder. While they present themselves as bringing order, morality, and Islamic law, they merely seem to bring inequality, barbarism, oppression and murder. They are, in short, enemies of human civilization and must be dealt with.

This is the real culture war.
