Science vs God Episode 1

Posted on

Science of course does not need to compete with God even if God exists. But I’ve decided to begin posting debates between experts on issues of evolution and religion and science in general as it relates to the existence of God. I will try to pick debates that I consider well-argued from both points of view. Keep an open mind.

Also keep in mind, that the person arguing in favor of religion always faces a disadvantage. Afterall, he or she is trying to convince of something unseen. Just as it is easier to convince a man standing in the United States of the US’ existence than it is to prove to him the existence of China while he’s not in that country.

Magus–I don’t think people can even agree on what God is–never mind whether God exists.

If people are allowed to define God each in their own way then everyone can believe…

Well you definitely picked a great debate to start with. Unlike most of the other ones I’ve seen, Lennox does a pretty good job here. Dawkins scores pretty clear KOs in most of the debates I’ve watched, here I actually think it’s a draw.

There’s some other good ones out there. The next one involves Chris Hitchens. I don’t want to say who the opponent is because I don’t want to ruin it. Let’s just say there’s an interesting twist: Hitchens’ opponent is not religious.
