The New Cold War has begun

Posted on Updated on

This one may end hotter than the last. US troops in Poland will feed the already fervent Russian nationalism. Do not underestimate the national psychological need to feel “on top.” Americans don’t really know what it feels like to be a member of a nation that used to be strong, but is now considered second tier.

Rational debate will not stem this tide. There are two options: Stand unquestionably strong, drawing a line which the US has every intent to defend. Or do nothing at all. Half-measures will merely stir the coals.

Magus – totally off topic but i saw you got my comment.I’m going to post the article but wanted to make sure you got my email – just to play it safe on your end. I’m about to be a target as there no negotiating with nut cases, I think I found Apollonian but I don’t generally believe in Doxing people – not unless they really do a lot of calling out (basically asking for me it no uncertain terms by outing others, and he hasn’t). If you have the ip he posts from handy – and if it’s the same – that would be immensely useful if you wouldn’t mind sharing. As I said, I’m pretty sure I know exactly who he is at this point, the IP would prove it. Assuimg that’s the case, I wouldn’t fox him – not unless he started dosing me (or you) and that was the only way to get him to stop, but races to the bottom are seldom productive. Often times, just dropping a very small hint, only one the bully can detect (b/c bullies have a heightened sense of things they read on the bullied person’s blog or forum) is enough to let them know you can hit hard if you need to – and they find someone else to go screw with that doesn’t seem as likely to bite. None of that is in order, he seems to have just went away for now – but bwear of the sock puppets, especially ones bearing your name or seeing bizarre trackbacks from sites like InfoWars or any of the white Supreacists sites- just having those trackbaacks is poison and they look harmless.

in any case, i’m 85% sure it’s him – writing style alone is too coincidental – direct name references and tangential ones. If he pops up and acts up – then screws with anyone – we’ll be able to talk him down pretty quickly (let’s hope that’s not needed and if it is, he’s just an internet tough guy, not a died in the wool pscyho)

You’re way off. The war has been hot since NATO attacked Serbia. NATO going on the offense was the act of aggression the USSR always feared. Everything that’s happening today is the same as what was happening then regarding Russia, NATO, and NATO-backed anti-Russian al Qaeda thugs.

This place has been quite busy since last I was here (last week?). Anyways, don’t see what effect 600 US troops spread over 4 countries, which is what I heard on the radio driving home, is supposed to accomplish. To me it’s an obvious domestic-only political ploy by Obambi and thus ultimately shows even greater weakness to Putin. It’s a joke in my book. If your company, alone, was suddenly sent to Poland or a Baltic state what would you expect to be doing? One company of men would fit in where? In what capacity? To do what? You’d just be a drop in the bucket relative to even those small armies, or so I suspect. I’m just a civi. Am I far off here?

    They are human shields.

Well, yes. Why Putin would dare not touch them. Of course given the odds of an errant round landing in the wrong place, which of course could always be written off as an oopsie, what could possibly go wrong? Maybe they’re just “advisers”.

Sorry, been offline for a few days. Still getting the house set up. TJ is correct, they are human shields of sorts. But let’s be clear about this: Putin and Russia do not really want a confrontation with America. If he overreaches, he will get crushed, and that would be a national embarrassment for him. He will not risk harming US troops. Russia also fears US anti-ballistic missile technology n Poland because Russia knows that it’s nuke capabilities enable it to get away with a lot. They can and have just threaten to drop the bomb. Our new missile defense program will be in Poland in 2018. Putin feels he needs to act before his nukes are rendered impotent.

Russia will continue to do what it has done for centuries: Divide and conquer. Putin is showboating Snowden to piss of Europeans and cause them to distrust America. Remember, Europe is not pissed off that we spy, they’re upset because we didn’t hold on to their secrets. Russia is also trying to hurt American resolve through subversion. In Obama, he senses an opportunity.

The best way America could embarrass Putin would be a rendition operation into the heart of Russia to snag Snowden back. Justice would be served on multiple levels and it wou7ld show Putin that two can play his game.

” He will not risk harming US troops. ” Oh, I don’t doubt that. Which is my point about sending such a small number of US troops, if he did overtly invade, in some piece-by-piece manner, he could easily avoid coming into contact with three companies of US troops scattered across 4 countries.

Also consider he hasn’t used “Russian” troops in Ukraine. Not until after the Crimea anschluss. when it became Russian territory. We don’t know who those guys other were/are. Wink-wink, nudge-nudge, knowwhatimean?
